TRUSTEES

Raymond Cooper (Chairman, appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government)
Raymond is a senior property lawyer, and until his recent retirement from full-time work after more than 40 years, was an equity partner and head of commercial property with Farrer & Co. He has been the Trust’s legal adviser since its inception and took on the role of Chairman in June 2006.


Neil Bisset BSc FRICS (Vice-Chairman, Nominated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
Neil is Property Manager with Threadneedle Property Investments Limited. From 1990 to 2000 he was the surveyor acting for the previous owner of the Market, Guardian Assurance plc. A Trustee since 2001.

Chris Betts RIBA, AABC (Nominated by the Royal Institute of British Architects)
Chris studied architecture at both the Birmingham and Brighton Schools of Architecture. He joined Purcell Miller Tritton in 1992 and is now a senior principal. He has worked on a wide range of buildings and is experienced in conservation studies, condition surveys and long-term maintenance programmes for historic buildings. A Trustee since 2007.


Sally Chatterjee (nominated by Visit London). Sally joined Visit London in April 2007 with overall responsibility for Marketing, Communications and Commercial Partnerships and is Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that, she worked as an independent strategy consultant in the telecom and TV industries. Sally holds a BA in Law and Accounting, and is an INSEAD MBA graduate. A Trustee since 2008.

Kim Church
(Nominated by the Covent Garden Business Forum)
Kim has worked in and around Covent Garden since 1969. He started his design consultancy business in Drury Lane in 1971, moving to Monmouth Street and eventually to Short’s Gardens. He launched ‘In and Around Covent Garden’ magazine in 1992. A Trustee since 1995.

Brian Coleman AM, FRSA (Nominated by the Greater London Assembly)
Brian has been a member of the GLA since June 2004, representing the constituency of Barnet and Camden. He Deputy Chairman of the GLA, Chair of the Budget Committee, Chair of the Business Management and Appointments Committee, Chair of the Elections Review Committee and Vice Chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority as well as a Freeman of the City of London. He has served on Barnet Council since 1998 for Totteridge Ward and is the Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Community Safety. He is President of Hendon and Edgware District Scouts, as well as being an active Rotarian. A Trustee since 2008.

Paul Drury FSA MRICS IHBC (Nominated by the Institute for Historic Building Conservation) Paul has been in private practice since 1997, currently as a partner in the Paul Drury Partnership; previously he was Director of English Heritage’s London Region. Paul has some 25 years experience as a Chartered Surveyor, archaeologist and architectural historian in both the public and private sectors. As well as giving site and area-specific advice, he is particularly involved in heritage policy development. From 1996 until 2004 he represented the UK on the Council of Europe Cultural Heritage Committee, which he chaired in 2002-4. A Trustee since 2008.

Carrie Faller (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Carrie is a qualified solicitor who trained with Gouldens and qualified in 1984, becoming a partner in 1989 during which time Gouldens (then Trowers & Hamlins) acted for Guardian on the original purchase of the Market from the London Residuary Body. Carrie continued to advise Guardian on all matters relevant to Covent Garden during the period of their ownership. Carrie moved to Farrer & Co in 2008 and is a partner in the Commercial Property department. A Trustee since 2007.

Frank Ferris (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Frank has been Deputy Chief Executive of Jubilee Market Hall Limited for 20 years. He is a constant supporter of the various bodies endeavouring to preserve the character of Covent Garden. Prior to 1983, he owned a small group of estate agencies with special interests in residential developments.
A Trustee since 2004.


Barbara Grahame (Nominated by Westminster City Council)
Barbara is Westminster councillor for Church Street ward and is the Minority party (Labour) spokesman on planning matters. A Trustee since 1999.





Louise Hyams (Nominated by Westminster City Council)
Louise is one of the three councillors for the St James’ ward which includes Covent Garden and currently Lord Mayor of Westminster (2007-08). She is Deputy Cabinet Member for Social and Community Services, vice-chair of the Overview & Scrutiny Built Environment committee and a member of the Public Transport O & S Task Group. She is also a member of the Planning and City Development Committee. A Trustee since 2007.


Tim Jackson (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Tim is principal lecturer at the London College of Fashion where he an expert on luxury branding. A Trustee since 2007.

Derek Parkes (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Derek is a commercial property investor with offices just south of the Strand. He has been involved with buildings and developments in Covent Garden since 1983, sometimes as principal, and sometimes as adviser to other owners. This has given him wide exposure to the issues that Covent Garden faces, and to most of the representative bodies present in this part of Central London.
A Trustee since 2005.

Mhora Samuel (Nominated by The Theatres Trust)
Mhora began her a career as a dancer and choreographer in Scotland. She moved to London in 1989 as Centre co-ordinator for Chisenhale Dance Space, and in 1991 was appointed Director of Total Theatre. She joined ABL Cultural Consulting in 1998 and in 2001 became Chief Executive of the Cultural Industries Development Agency. Mhora joined The Theatres Trust as Director in January 2006. A Trustee since July 2006.

David Shamash (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
David and his wife bought and restored a derelict house in Floral Street in 1977 and he now lives and works there as a director of a property investment company. A Trustee since 2004.





Stan Sheriff (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Stan lives in Covent Garden and works as a clerk to the retired judges in the Law Courts in the Strand. A Trustee since 1992.






Christina Smith (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
A Trustee since 2007.

Paul Velluet (Ordinary Trustee, elected by the members)
Paul is a chartered architect with experience in both the private and public sectors. Over the last 25 years he has worked primarily in conservation and planning. From 1992 to 2004 he was the nominated Trustee of English Heritage and was elected an Ordinary Trustee on his retirement. He has continued to promote the interests of conservation and accessibility in the Covent Garden area. A Trustee since 1992.

Josephine Weir (Nominated by the Covent Garden Community
Association)
Jo has been a local resident for more than 20 years and is a watercolour artist. She is Chairman of the CGCA, Chairman of the Central Westminster Police Consultative Group, on the board of the Jubilee Sports Hall, a member of the Westminster Amenity Society Forum and is on the Soho Society Executive committee. A Trustee since 1993.

Michael Welbank BA (Nominated by the Royal Town Planning Institute)
Michael is an architect and town planner, a graduate of University College London. After posts in local and central government he became director of international consultancy, Shankland Cox, working mainly on development projects in Middle East and North Africa and more recently director of EntecUK, working on environmental aspects of major infrastructure projects in this country. He was President of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1995; is currently Common Councilman, City of London Corporation, Governor of Museum of London, Mitcham Common Conservator and Trustee of the Central London Schools Foundation. A Trustee since 2007.

Sarah Lane (Administrator)
Sarah is a former journalist, who trained and worked in Bournemouth before moving to London in 1998 after which she worked on a local weekly newspaper, edited a magazine, was customer service co-ordinator at Greenwich Millennium Village and was employed in various capacities for the NHS with Southwark Primary Care Trust. She has worked for the CGAT since June 2006.
